Challenge: Customer orientation

Quickly and efficiently implementing customer requirements

Today, more than ever, companies must stay competitive, address individual customer demands and supply products tailored to their needs. Variants are therefore produced in increasing numbers at decreasing volumes. This development towards “batch size 1” poses enormous challenges, especially to mid-sized manufacturers, in terms of variant configuration, calculation, data maintenance and production. Traditional ERP systems rapidly reach their limits due to lacking automatic variant management routines or poorly integrated product configurators, with companies often therefore paying dearly for production flexibility, yet constrained by workflow inefficiency. VlexPlus closes exactly this gap, by ensuring flexible and simultaneously efficient manufacturing requiring a minimum of master data.

Consistency

Encompassing variant logic for automated job processing

Although most conventional ERP and PPC systems are capable of projecting variants via master data modifications, they will lack consistency across the entire quotation, planning and manufacturing process. Intelligent and firmly integrated variant management is required to render the growing data volume controllable across departments. VlexPlus has a trendsetting variant logic spanning all levels, from calculation via sales, purchasing and manufacturing up to controlling. Manufacturers can in this way prevent high set-up costs, incorrect delivery times, deviations between pre- and post-calculations, faulty designs or complex data maintenance from degrading their daily business to crisis management.

Product configurator

Simple variant configuration in sales, planning and production

In addition to offering the necessary structural integration across all process levels, VlexPlus also offers sophisticated, encompassing configuration rules that will guarantee flexibility and reliability of planning and production. The policy is at the core of VlexPlus variant configuration, documenting and controlling all constraints and multi-dimensional conditionalities between product properties and product property values of the variants. Complete integration of these configuration rules into the commercial areas allows basic products to be very easily and reliably configured based on their individual properties and values and to be effectively utilised in all further sales, purchasing and production processes.

Master data quality and process transparency

Effective master data management and simple data maintenance

The underlying configuration principle including basic products, product properties and property values reduces data maintenance and guarantees effective master data management, even with increasing variant diversity, by bundling thousands of article variants into only a few basic products. Product property-related price matrixes with surcharges and discounts, e.g. for specific colours, materials or forms, allow trading and manufacturing companies to carry out valid calculations and convenient pricing of all product variants. The variant parts lists and work schedules required for production are generated automatically based on version-based storage of modules. Strategic control of the entire variant management ultimately ensures that the variant costs are calculated equitable to the client and that companies may keep track of their complex job and manufacturing systems in their planning, control and monitoring processes.

Process efficiency

Lean working processes and sustainable cost savings

Constantly growing data volumes will diminish master data consistency and completeness, with the result that automatic data processing routines are left stranded. With its intelligent and consistent configuration logics VlexPlus ensures

  • efficient handling of calculations, sales, logistics and production
  • effective data and variant management through effective improvement of master data quality and reduced maintenance
  • improved competitiveness and new sales potentials through customer orientation
  • reliable preliminary calculations and accurate delivery dates
  • cost savings by avoiding wrong configurations and incorrect orders.
